The Office S1E2: Diversity Day

Good morning everyone and welcome back to the Breakroom! As promised we are back with the next episode in our podcast series. We are covering Diversity Day and we dissect the craziness which occurs when Michael Scott is given a platform to educate his staff about diversity in the workplace.

We also breakdown the definition of DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) and our conclusion that despite the fear mongering which has occurred in the United States, it holds benefit in the workplace. A great piece of reading material is “DEI: What It Is & How to Champion It in the Workplace” by Michael Boyles through the Harvard Business Review. This article helps answer the question “What is DEI?” and goes on to provide insight to how one can incorporate it into their own business.

While those spreading misinformation try to say that DEI is meant to take jobs and give them to people simply because they are a minority, the truth is that it is meant to encourage a level playing field to those in marginalized groups. Further it encourages celebrating the fact that this country is a melting pot of different backgrounds and cultures. Rather than being afraid we should be celebrating what makes us different and that is the cornerstone of what it means to be an American.

Share your thoughts, show your friends, and I hope you all have a great day at the office.
